Seriously,it was damn exhausting and as usual day … nothing changed other than knowing that my colleague is leaving and unfortunately,I came to know very last…I wonder even if he shares most of the things,he couldn’t tell me this ..I felt really bad..still,Just good to know that he is happy….
Just reached home and would like to talk to somebody, who is a stranger….who may become a friend… because,You can freely talk to a stranger sometimes, more freely than whom we think we are very close….this sounds crazy..but it works….

Hi I’m Nia, another 40-something Irish lady who has moved back to Ireland after some decades abroad and now find myself wondering “yikes, how on earth do we make new friends at our age!?”. I live in the south-side of Dublin, and work in the creative industries.

My spouse and our daughter have both settled into their new Dublin life really well, I’m just lagging behind a little bit because I work from home a lot. So I’d love to push myself to be more sociable, I’m not a drinker but love getting out for a cuppa, or a pastry!

I love pop music, vegetarian food, reading trashy novels, comedy, video games, all that good stuff! I would consider myself a loyal and supportive friend, I’m still close with my old college pals from back in the day. All new friends welcome, best wishes

Hello, BFFs! I am counting the days until we can fix up our house in California and sell it, then move to Ennis. The current plan is April 2025. Tick tock tick tock.

I grew up in South Africa, lived in Dublin for a few years in the 1980s, and have spent the last several years in California. Now our kids are grown and it’s time for Pat and me to go exploring on our own, and what better spot than Co. Clare, amirite?

There are a lot of people reaching out here on BFF. I’m curious how well that’s working. I’m fairly introverted so it’s always been hard for me to “just make friends”, and I find it super awkward to reach out to a stranger and say “hey I’ll be your friend” because you never know what you’re getting into. 😬 When we were young, our school classmates provided a good pool of potential friends. At work, we’re exposed to people who might turn into friends. (Unless you worked where I used to work šŸ™„) And when you’re in a new place and don’t know anyone, it’s really, really hard.

But research shows that one way to start friendships is to keep showing up.

One of the first things I’m going to do when we hit the ground in Ireland is sign up to volunteer… somewhere. I’ve found a few volunteer orgs but I’d love to get some suggestions. Who knows, I might even be able to connect with one of them before we get to Ireland.

What volunteer orgs do YOU recommend?

I’m in cork and it’d help to find friends close to me. I love nature, going for bush walks or to nature reserves and wildlife parks, i paint and draw or play Minecraft in my spare time, but would like to meet people and start going out more, being more social. I can be really shy and awkward but once I’m comfortable I’m super goofy, loud and expressive. I’ve never had many friends and find it hard making friends, so I hope this site works. Sean, you came close to starting a spider farm. I accept spiders only in the form of Halloween decorations because they disgust me and I feel that there is something atavistic about this feeling. I am also fascinated by the world of animals. Interestingly, animals display behaviors that the general public calls typically human. For example, elephants bring flowers to the graves of their deceased relatives.

I generally like animals but my favorites are cats, raccoons, red pandas and foxes.

                          Hi anyone reading this šŸ™‚

My name is Jennifer and i am 33 and living in Derry. I am on here in the hopes to make some friends online and possibly offline. I am a carer for my parents so chances to get out and about can be limited.

Just looking for people to chat with who have similar interests or goals.

Some of my interests include reading [non-fiction], zoology [sadly i am without a pet right now lol] and history. Although i am not out as much as i used to or want to be i really love spending time outdoors, especially around the water – sea, lake, river, i like them all lol.

In terms of media interests i enjoy all sorts of music from pop, rock to trance and some classical. I enjoy watching comedy panel shows and documentaries and also tv series like The Office[US], Six Feet Under, Game of Thrones etc, also some older comedies – Faulty Towers, Gimme Gimme Gimme etc. Also some podcasts revolving around debunking pseudoscience.

Im working from home at the moment so, now that the christmas house cleaning for visitors is over, I thought i would reach out for some people to chat with. My interests are a bit nerdy: some tech, sci-fi, fantasy etc (but not superheroes , generally )I also follow the wide range of current and upcoming Irish bands, and like camping at some music festivals throughout the year. Hopefully I can get back to them this yeaar, after a 2 year absence.

                              Hi Kelly,

I’m Nuraini. I just joined this Bffinder thing today, after moping around the house for a few years. I’m 43-ish :). I’ve been here since 1999, from Malaysia. I came here as a University Student, fell in love with a classmate, married, stayed, had babies, worked, quit work, and now am looking for new things to do. A new chapter of life shall we say.

Your note resonates with me, in terms of the trying to make a beautiful home (I’m not too good at it though, it always seems to stay a mess, with 6 people to clean up after, maybe it’s not my fault), growing vegetables, crafting and animals. We have two pet rabbits and a few fish and a turtle. I have tried being self-sufficient but don’t think I’d be able to survive off my produces alone… at all. I like walking too, hiking not so much but will do it for health reasons. I love yoga, even tho it tortures me afterwards, esp the planking/core muscle poses. I’m also more of a home bird. Even my work friends have commented on this. I’d only go out shopping if I have to. I’d make myself attend work dinners and all that but it is something that takes alot of effort from me. I know it’s something I have to work on, like building a stamina/tolerence for it. It’s a relief now that I don’t have to deal with people that much, but at the same time, loneliness does creep up.

Unfortunately, I’m in Limerick, so meeting up would be unlikely. This might be both a relief and a downer :).

I don’t know if I’d make a good friend, but I can try.

I’m sorry about your heart being broken. From what you said, was it recent? That’s simply horrible. But I’m not going to make this about him, so what can I do for you? What would you like to talk about?

I used to enjoy cooking but have lost the spirit for it recently. What kind of crafts do you do? I’m trying to learn watercolour at the moment, but since it’s only my first year at it, I have nothing good to show for it yet. I used to be into cardmaking and have drawers of stuff šŸ˜› If you’re interested in any of those kind of stuff, maybe I could post some of my excess to you. I don’t know how to knit but my eldest daughter does. She’s the same age as yours. I am just learning how to sew and mend clothes at the moment and am so pleased that I can now rescue my jeans/denims rather than throw them away.

Alright, that’s all I can think of to say for now. I need to get cracking at the daily wiping and sweeping, else my house would have no chance at being beautiful :). Take care.

PS: What do you plant in your garden? I need help as a lot of my plants seem to be dying this year. I’m starting to wonder if there is something wrong with the soil.

                                        Good afternoon, everyone!

My name’s Lara and I’m from Switzerland. I’ve stumbled across this site in my search to learn more about Ireland and to get sort of a starting point, as I am currently looking for an employment in Dublin – it’s always been my dream to work abroad and now I’m finally in the position where I can actually begin to tackle it.

I studied translations (English and French into German) and am currently trying to learn Dutch, Italian and Irish, though the focus clearly is on Dutch. I’m interested in basically everything – as long as it’s presented to me with joy and passion, I’m on board (except all things mathematical, I’m at total loss here…)

Thanks to my dad, I’ve had a fascination for the northern european countries ever since I can remember and have visited Dublin a couple of times in the past.

Despite being interested in many things, I don’t make contact with new people too easily so I’m hoping to find one or two people on this site.

That’s it from me for now, and until soon!

                                        Cheers,
                                        Lara

I’m still very busy. I teach school, raise my granddaughters, cook/clean, and have my own business. There’s never a dull moment around here.

I love photography! I can’t always take my camera as I developed rheumatoid arthritis last year, it’s all over but my hands and wrists and shoulders can get really bad so I can’t use them much. Here are some of my favourites from the last 12 months. I particularly love animal photography, landscapes, and street photography. This one is in Morocco, Marrakesh, such a vibrant colourful place, on the surface it seems like absolute mayhem, but look a little closer and you see that it’s not at all.

@burkie Could you please add it again so that people could meet for a socially distant walk or coffee? Or even add a book club online chat gathering? At least people could form connections on here before the restrictions lift & have gatherings to look forward to.
I’m near Tipperary Town if anyone is close by & would like to meet.

@hernameislalex Hi Alex and welcome! We have a Gatherings feature that we turned off due to Covid-19 but hopefully in the coming weeks we can add that again so you can post up coffee chats, shopping trips, or book club chats for people to attend.

How was Japan? My sister and nephew have had a few trips there and they were all asking for photos with my nephew šŸ˜€
